A German soccer fan’s viral World Cup tour of US earns him tour of Saints practice facility

A viral German content creator was given an opportunity to tour the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans practice facilities on Friday morning on his way to Houston for a World Cup match.

X user @FreddyLA7 has live-posted experiencing America for the first time as he makes his way to watch World Cup competition. He landed in New York, and marveled at things like Buc-ees, Waffle House and Auburn University’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Freddy and two friends are driving through the South to get to Houston on Sunday for the Germany soccer team’s World Cup match against Curaçao at NRG Stadium. While on the road, Freddy was blown away by the Alabama beaches and Louisiana’s swamps.

“The vibes are insane,” Freddy posted. “Driving through the great state of Louisiana, on our way to New Orleans. It’s crazy how diverse this country is. Every day, the scenery looks different.”

Freddy’s next two posts were photos of Bourbon Street and a late-night trip to a New Orleans Waffle House. Before his crew left New Orleans on Friday morning, Freddy and his two friends got to tour the Saints and Pelicans practice facilities off of Airline Drive in Metairie.

“Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity,” Freddy posted. “Once in a lifetime.”

Freddy and his friends got to hold the Super Bowl XLIV Lombardi trophy, and received gear from both teams, including a Drew Brees sign, to take home with them.

“We’re only traveling with hand luggage,” Feddy posted, “need to find out how to get all of this back home.”

There are 16 host cities across North America for this year’s World Cup — 11 in America, three in Mexico and two in Canada.
