Alisson Becker has revealed that he deliberately missed some of Liverpool's fixtures during the 2025-26 season. He added that the decision was made to ensure that he was fit and ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Estadão, Alisson discussed his fitness and availability for Brazil at the tournament. The goalkeeper went on to reveal that he saved his best for the tournament and players should do the same, saying (via DaveOCKOP):
"I’m 100%. Missing games for Liverpool was part of the plan to make sure I was ready for the World Cup. Everyone knows I spent a period out before the World Cup, but also very much because of arriving at the World Cup 100%. I said before: the important thing is how we arrive at the World Cup."
Alisson registered 35 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool during the 2025-26 term. He kept 13 clean sheets, but missed 10 of the Reds' final 12 games of the season.
The Brazilian also conceded 37 goals in 35 games across competitions last term. But he wasn't alone, as the whole squad, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, were all inconsistent.
Despite managing his minutes to arrive fit for the competition, Alisson would have to prove himself in goal as Ederson and Weverton remain serious contenders.

A total of eight players from the 2024-25 Premier League winners' squad were invited by their various nations for the tournament. They are Alisson Becker of Brazil, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo of Netherlands.
Others are Florian Wirtz of Germany, Alexis Mac Allister of Argentina, and Alexander Isak of Sweden. However, Wataru Endo, whom Japan initially invited, has now been withdrawn from the tournament due to an injury.
Despite their poor run in the 2025-26 term, it is impressive that eight players were invited to represent their various nations. These players are expected to impress their nations and commence the forthcoming season at Anfield in fine form.
However, there was no Liverpool player in England's FIFA World Cup squad for the first time since 1986.
