Enzo Fernandez transfer news
Bernardo Silva domino effect could trigger Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid move
Money talks in football, but chaos dictates the market. The latest whispers out of Spain suggest Florentino Perez’s sensational re-election at Real Madrid, coupled with the dramatic return of Jose Mourinho, has set off a mad scramble for elite midfielders. According to Marca, Madrid have already reached a verbal agreement with Bernardo Silva.
The Manchester City maestro is set to arrive on a free transfer at the end of July, once his contract expires, with all parties desperate to sign the paperwork before Portugal kick off their World Cup campaign against DR Congo. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona tried to hijack the deal. They failed. Mourinho personally intervened to secure Silva’s transfer to the Bernabéu.
Madrid pivot after PSG rejection
But Mourinho isn’t stopping there. The Athletic reports that Los Blancos initially targeted PSG duo Vitinha and Joao Neves, only to be met with a firm “not for sale” sign. That rejection forced a quick change of strategy. Enzo Fernandez is now firmly on Madrid’s radar, sharing a shortlist with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. Chelsea claim they aren’t selling. Yet, Fernandez has dropped hints of serious discontent since Chelsea’s Champions League exit in March, openly criticising the board’s handling of Enzo Maresca’s exit. He even copped a two-game ban for publicly flirting with a Madrid move during the international break.
Let’s be realistic. This transfer has legs. Don’t bet against it.
Chelsea are in no position to play hardball anymore. A dismal tenth-place finish means no Champions League football at Stamford Bridge next season. They are vulnerable. Fernandez has already made his feelings known, and once a player starts talking like that, the writing is usually on the wall. He wants out.

The finances will be staggering. Chelsea will desperately try to recoup and exceed the £107m they paid Benfica. Perez, notoriously ruthless in negotiations, won’t overpay easily. But with Vitinha and Neves completely out of reach, and Mateus Fernandes chased by both Manchester United and PSG, Fernandez represents the cleanest elite option for Mourinho’s rebuilding job. Expect a long, drawn-out saga filled with public posturing from both clubs. It will likely drag on into late summer, but a deal in the £100m to £120m bracket feels inevitable. Chelsea’s resistance is crumbling.
