Liverpool continues to work hard on transfers behind the scenes as the World Cup gets into full swing. And while it won't be relying on the tournament for scouting purposes, many players will see the hype and clamor for a move increase on the back of a successful time in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Few teams have entered with more anticipation than France, the narrowly-beaten finalists from 2022. And while the competition for places is intense, Bradley Barcola will hope to play a significant role for his country, amid links with an Anfield switch.

You can see why he might be open to a move, given that much of his competition at national level is replicated every week at PSG. The likes of Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue are blocking his path to more regular minutes, whereas a switch to Andoni Iraola's Liverpool would see him take center stage as heir to Mohamed Salah (assuming, that is, he did not arrive in addition to Yan Diomande).

There's an update on a potential move for Barcola, while Liverpool is also mulling over the possibility of a sale. Here's the Liverpool.com verdict on the latest Reds transfer rumors.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

PSG is open to the idea of sanctioning a departure for Barcola. That's per L'Equipe.

The French outlet says that the European champion is "not completely opposed" to the idea of a sale, because progress has stalled over a contract extension. Barcola has two years left to run on his deal in the French capital, and an extension does not look imminent.

The 23-year-old is believed to want assurances over game time. With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the roster alongside Doue and Dembele, it is difficult for Luis Enrique to make those promises.

An internal source stressed that PSG will only keep players who are "highly committed", and that the club will "find a solution" if somebody wants to leave. However, Barcola is not intending to force a showdown, and the matter will be shelved at least until the end of the World Cup.

Liverpool.com says: This would be a great opportunity if it arises. Barcola's only fault is being at a team with one of the most fearsome attacking lineups ever assembled, and would be a starter almost anywhere in Europe.

It's clear that PSG still really rates him, and any parting of the ways would be reluctant. Given the platform to truly shine at Liverpool, the sky would be the limit for Barcola, who is still years from his prime.

Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)

Liverpool may field interest in Alexis Mac Allister this summer. That's per Fabrizio Romano on YouTube.

The journalist reports that some clubs are starting to look at the midfielder's situation, and that progress might be made in the event of a "good proposal" for both the player and the Reds. However, he remains part of the planning at Anfield under new manager Iraola, and a transfer is far from certain at the moment.

Mac Allister, signed from Brighton in 2023 for $47 million, is currently at the World Cup with Argentina. No move is imminent, but it's definitely a situation to watch as the summer progresses.

Liverpool.com says: It would be preferable to see how Mac Allister fares under Iraola before making any transfer decisions. His peak version was close to indispensible to Liverpool, but there is a big question mark over whether he can recover that same form.

There is no getting away from the fact that he struggled last season under Arne Slot. He looked a shadow of his best self, and seemed too lightweight to do anything about the Reds' porous midfield.

Reluctantly, therefore, the club would probably feel as though it would have to consider an offer that would secure a profit on what it paid three years ago. Keeping him and hoping for a renaissance is at least as much of a gamble as cashing in, although finding a suitable replacement would not necessarily be straightforward. Seeing how he fares at the World Cup is a good first step in taking stock.
