Scotland is set to play its World Cup opener against Haiti, looking to lay the groundwork for a campaign to remember under Steve Clarke, and the Scots will be captained by ex-Liverpool man Andy Robertson.

Though Robertson recently completed a move to Spurs, the fortunes of the Liverpool legend in North America will still be followed closely by Reds fans. He is closing in on Kenny Dalglish's record for national caps, and could theoretically draw level at the tournament in the event that Scotland makes the final or third-place playoff.

Ambitions might not be set quite as high as that, but the Scots enter the tournament on a wave of positivity, having just beaten Bolivia 4-0. Another former Liverpool player, Ben Gannon-Doak, was impressive in that win, and he too will be able to count on the goodwill of the Anfield faithful.

Meanwhile, around 25 million people in the US claim some kind of Scottish heritage. So there is bound to be plenty of native support too as Scotland begin their World Cup campaign at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Plenty of the Tartan Army will be making their way across the Atlantic too, seizing the opportunity in what is their first World Cup appearance in almost 30 years. And the opening game could be of huge significance.

Thanks to the change in format, plenty of third-placed teams will progress to the knockout stages. Haiti is the side that Scotland "should" beat, and a comfortable win would leave a really clear path to qualification before games against Morocco and Brazil (featuring Alisson and former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho).

Whether you're in the US or UK, here's how you can watch the game:

Early team news

Scotland suffered a setback in the pre-tournament friendlies when Billy Gilmour was forced to withdraw from the squad with a knee injury. He has been replaced by Tyler Fletcher, son of Darren Fletcher and current member of the Man United youth setup.

There have been further issues since heading out to the US. The Scots frustrated Norway by cancelling a friendly as they looked to preserve the health of their players.
