Premier League holders Arsenal have made an initial move to sign Manchester United target Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, according to journalist David Ornstein.
The Red Devils are planning to pursue a specialist left winger to compete with Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu, and Tzolis has been earmarked as a prime target, with an enquiry made.
However, it appears Arsenal have moved first for the Greece international. Ornstein reports that the Gunners are exploring a summer deal for the highly-rated Brugge attacker.
A transfer could be possible for around £35 million. Arsenal are planning to make a high-profile left-wing signing alongside Tzolis, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers among targets.
Man Utd should enter the race for Tzolis’ signature
The 24-year-old had a blistering season with Brugge. He contributed 17 goals and 23 assists from just 36 appearances in the Belgian Pro League. He predominantly played from the left wing.
Across all competitions, Tzolis ended the campaign with a staggering tally of 22 goals and 29 assists. The Greek ace caught the eye with his clever decision-making from the left flank.
Of course, the Premier League is vastly superior to the Belgian top-flight when it comes to intensity and physicality, but Tzolis proved his credentials in the Champions League last term.
He had goal contributions against Atalanta, Atletico and Barcelona. Hence, it is unsurprising that there is elite European interest, and we believe United should join the pursuit of the former Norwich City ace.
Tzolis has personally said that he would be tempted to join the Red Devils this summer, and the onus is on the hierarchy to make a formal move in the coming days to beat Arsenal to the player.
