Liverpool rate Rio Ngumoha extremely highly and they’re not alone with the 17-year-old the subject of covetous clubs around Europe.
Christian Falk, while speaking on his YouTube channel, shared some insight into Bayern Munich’s attempt to sign Rio Ngumoha, which came as a big surprise to fans.
From the outside, it seemed obvious that Liverpool would never let him leave, as his emergence is the reason that Liverpool refused to sign a left winger last summer when Luis Diaz joined the Germans.
Three goals and one assist in his first season of senior football is a decent return, but more indicative of his imminent stratospheric rise is the lack of fear he’s shown despite making the daunting step-up to men’s Premier League football.

“Yes, Bayern Munich was concretely interested indeed,” Falk said of the Bavarians’ interest.
He continued: “There are rumors that the brother of him who is doing some transfers for him was already in Munich at Säbener Straße for talks, for negotiations, and signalled that the player would be interested to go to Bayern Munich and that there will be no problems with the contract details and salary.”
Liverpool firmly closed the door on any chance of leaving Anfield
Despite the cheeky attempt to poach Liverpool’s latest wonderkid, Falk affirms reports that there isn’t a world where FSG approves a sale of the teenager.
Falk continued: “But Bayern Munich get a very clear signal from Liverpool when they knocked at the door that there is no time to talk, no reason to talk.
“There will be no negotiations because they are so convinced about the player that the signal was we won’t sell him.
“So, you can’t offer for him anything. It won’t happen.”

Thank goodness Rio is staying at Liverpool
After the 2025-26 season of toil and tribulation for Liverpool, it would have been a bitter pill to swallow to see the brightest spark at the club leave for Bayern.
There was much that Liverpool had to endure this season, but as in many seasons past, the brightest spark of hope came from the fearless and youthful naivety shown by Rio Ngumoha. The teenager is not just any old talent; he’s going to be a superstar.
Now, it’s not uncommon for fans to say this about youth players when they break through, but there is something about Ngumoha that is different.
Words don’t quite explain what Liverpool fans saw this season. It’s more of a feeling. Feelings can be misleading, but there is just a sense that Liverpool have a truly special player on their hands.

A word that is overused by fans in this age of social media and that’s ‘generational.’ If Liverpool and, indeed, Rio himself find themselves lucky in terms of injuries (or lack thereof), there is every chance that Ngumoha can follow a similarly meteoric rise to stardom at Anfield in the next few years.
Six days after the 2026-27 Premier League season begins, he will turn 18, which means he still has a lot of physical and mental development to come, but he could be one of the best attackers in Europe by the time he turns 21 in 2030.
It sounds like exaggeration, but that’s just how high the ceiling on his potential is. Let’s pray that luck is on his side in his fledgling career.
