“I’ll discuss it” – Player opens door for Manchester City move, sends goodbye message to fans

Manchester City transfer target Givairo Read

Feyenoord’s Givairo Read says he’s aware of claims of Manchester City and Bayern Munich wanting to sign this summer.

The Premier League side have been following the right-back since November, when they sent a scout to the Netherlands.

Two months ago, we relayed news that Manchester City interest in the 20-year-old excites the Eredivisie side, who are seeking a club-record fee. Their current record is €35m from Igor Paixão’s sale to Marseille in August 2025.

On May 21st, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that the Etihad club are in pole position and have pushed Bayern Munich out of the way.

Boost for Manchester City and Bayern Munich

Dutch magazine Hand in Hand interviewed Givairo Read and Voetbal Primeur have relayed his comments.

Recent claims of Manchester City and Bayern Munich interest get a mention. The Feyenoord player says these links are a compliment to his development.

“I read them too, and that would be a compliment, but to be honest, I don’t concern myself with that much right now. That is something for my agent,” he said.

Robin van Persie, who stepped down as Feyenoord manager, has backed him to make the big jump.

However, there are suggestions in the Dutch press than a move to Manchester City or Bayern Munich would be too soon this summer.

“To be honest, and I certainly don’t want to come across as arrogant, I don’t really listen to what everyone has to say. Ultimately, it is my career, and I make the choices myself,” Read explained.

“Everyone has an opinion, but at the end of the day, I have to make the decision myself. At this moment, I don’t know what the future holds. If an opportunity arises, I will discuss it with my family and agent, the people closest to me who know me best.”

Message to Feyenoord

It’s unclear whether the fullback will change clubs this summer. However, Givairo Read sent a message to the Dutch club’s supporters, if he were to leave.

“Suppose it comes to the point where I make a transfer, I certainly want to say something to the supporters. That I am very grateful to them for the years I have been here,” he added.

“I have always felt a lot of love and received a lot of trust. (..) I hope that, should a transfer come about, they will grant me that as well. Whatever happens: Feyenoord supporters really are the best.”

No concrete progress

The Citizens haven’t made concrete progress, probably because they are in the process of appointing Pep Guardiola’s successor. The new coach could have the final say on whether or not to proceed.

Givairo Read’s contract runs until 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €25m. Dutch agency Muy Manero represent the Netherlands U21 international.
