Liverpool‘s Cody Gakpo wants to leave the Premier League side this summer, according to a report from the Netherlands.

The forward joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. He played a key part in helping them win the title during the 2024/25 season, managing 18 goals and seven assists.

Liverpool rewarded the Netherlands international with a new contract in September 2025, but his form has dropped since then.

Gakpo scored nine goals and contributed six assists in 3,596 minutes from 52 matches this season.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that Tottenham Hotspur are making places to sign him. Roberto De Zerbi appreciates Gakpo and wants him to be part of his rebuild at Spurs.

The latest claims from the UK have mentioned Newcastle United and Bayern Munich could also be options for Cody Gakpo this summer. Soccer News relay that and then provide their own updates on this case.

After a difficult season, the Reds parted ways with the attacker’s compatriot, Arne Slot, and appointed Andoni Iraola as his successor.

The Spaniard’s arrival could change things for the 27-year-old at Anfield. However, the report provides no further explanation. Either way, the Dutchman has personally informed the Premier League side of his ‘clear desire’ to leave this summer.

Soccer News journalist Mounir Boualin again mentions Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘serious interest’ in the Dutchman.

Last year, Sport Witness relayed news of his agents holding talks with the Bundesliga winners.

Bayern Munich are now moving forward to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Ismael Saibari. This rules out the Bavarian club trying to sign the Liverpool player, who has options to continue in the Premier League.

Contract, value and agent info

Cody Gakpo has a contract at Liverpool until 2030 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is now €60m. The highest value was €70m in March 2025.

Agency SEG, owned by agents Kees Vos, Jeroen Hoogewerf and Kees Ploegsma, represent the Liverpool man. Nico O’Reilly, Leeds United duo of Jako Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs and several others are also with the agency.
