Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has reiterated he’s happy at the Premier League side.

The Spain international’s future at Chelsea has been a topic of discussion in his country for weeks.

Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have both shown interest in signing the left-back this summer.

Last week, Sport Witness relayed news the 27-year-old has informed the Blues of his wish to leave Stamford Bridge. However, his direct words tell a different story.

The La Liga duo, along with Manchester City, have expressed their interest in the fullback.

On Friday, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man said he’s very happy with the English club. He’s also informed his agent not to discuss potential transfers during the World Cup.

Chelsea star held talks with Xabi Alonso

La Roja start their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on Monday. Ahead of this tie, Marca sat down for a detailed interview with Marc Cucurella.

The majority of the discussion revolved around the national team and the World Cup. A small section was about the Blues, who have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager.

Marca asked the defender how he handles rumours while preparing for the World Cup.

He said: “By reading very little and paying little attention. My agents already know they shouldn’t tell me anything. I’m very happy where I am, and so is my family.

“What’s meant to be will be. Right now, I’m focusing on the World Cup and enjoying this experience, which is my first, and who knows if it will be my last.”

When asked further whether he’s attracted to Xabi Alonso’s project at Chelsea, Cucurella explained: “Yes. I’ve spoken with him and he inspired a lot of confidence in me.”

“I’ve also spoken with Grimaldo and Borja, who have worked with him, and they spoke very highly of him. The project seems very interesting.”

Comments sound like dismissing exit rumours

From the Spaniard’s latest comments about his love for Chelsea and the chat with Xabi Alonso, it doesn’t sound like he’s thinking of leaving this summer. There’s always the chance he’s putting on an act, but he certainly sounds sincere.

Marc Cucurella’s contract lasts until 2028 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €50m. He played 50 matches for the Blues this season.
