King’s Birthday Honours list 2026 officially name former Manchester United trio as MBEs

Manchester United players across the world have previously received honours from The King as a sign of their magnificent work for football and sport more generally
Ella Toone was one of the latest players to receive an honour with her named in the New Year Honours List earlier this year before being awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
Toone’s inclusion in the list came down to her efforts in helping England win the European Championships last summer, alongside other contributions in football.
David Beckham has also received an award from The King recently with him knighted which is one of the highest honours that can be put onto someone.
Beckham has gone onto meet The King as the duo worked on the Chelsea Flower Show and met with trainees to discuss the project.
Now, as the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours list has been released, a trio that were associated with Manchester United in the past have been recognized.
The list, featuring over 1000 people, has names Alessia Russo, Lauren James, and Lou Macari as MBEs for their hard work.
Russo and James were both named in the list for their services to Association Football.
Macari, on the other hand, was named in the list for services to Association Football and to Homeless People in Stoke-on-Trent.
Alessia Russo was at Manchester United between 2020 and 2023 and played for England alongside her duties at the club during her three-year spell.
James also played for England during her spell at Manchester United, appearing at youth level, as she worked towards her debut for the national team in 2022.
Lou Macari, away from football, has been on a project with the Macari Foundation which strives to end homelessness in Stoke.
For each of three individuals, their inclusion in the King’s Birthday Honours list marks a proud landmark of the work that has been put in so far.
Each individual will officially receive their award in the short-future.
