Antonio Valencia remains involved in football despite leaving Manchester United in 2019 and continues to make his name felt.
The full-back went onto join LDU Quito in 2019 after his departure from Old Trafford before signing for Querétaro in 2020. That move would be the last in his playing career, though, with his retirement being announced in May 2021.
Since retiring from playing professionally, the former Ecuador international has played in a number of legend matches, returning to Old Trafford last summer as team of Manchester United legends met a team of Southampton legends.
He is also a part of a team of Manchester United legends that are managed by Eric Cantona.
A new era has now begun at Old Trafford with Michael Carrick taking out permanently and questions have now been put to Antonio Valencia about a potential return to the club.
Speaking in response to questions surrounding a return, Valencia said: “Yes, I would go back. United is a club that gave me so much. My family was very happy there.
“I would work for them in any role, out of passion. It is a club I love a lot. I think everything they are doing is going well.”
The 40-year-old’s commitment to Manchester United is clear to see. A return, in a coaching role, could help to develop younger players further and may help to make them even better.
Whether Manchester United choose to recruit in coaching this summer remains to be seen.
Hiring individuals in coaching roles offers key benefits, including adding more expertise and opening up opportunities for development, although would add to the club’s wage bill.
Focus for Manchester United remains on making effective and selective changes that can improve the club in ways that will drive success further.
