Boca Juniors are looking to strengthen their squad in this summer’s transfer window in a bid to improve on the club’s third place finish in the 2026 season.

The club, who have now not won a league title in four years, have won the Liga Professional 30 times and will be looking to beat the division’s best in a bid to another title.

Whilst the club will look to bring players into the club, others may have to leave for this to occur.

During last summer’s preparation, former Manchester United star Marcos Rojo was released from the club leaving the defender at a crossroads.

Now, another former Manchester United star has met their end with the club and will be looking for their next opportunity.

Releasing the departure on the club’s official X page, Boca have announced that Ander Herrera will leave the club this summer.

Herrera, seen in an emotional farewell video to supporters, joined the club 18 months ago and has made 29 appearances for the side.

In the farewell video, the midfielder stated: “Hello, Bosteros. I’m here to let you know that the club and I have decided to continue this adventure in a different way. This time it will be as a fan, as a fan for the rest of my life.”

He continued: “It has been a wonderful year and a half, I have met incredible people, and I have been lucky enough to share a dressing room with teammates I will consider friends for the rest of my life.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity the club gave me to play here, one of the dreams I had throughout my career, to have been able to represent this club, to be able to wear these colors.

“Also, thanks so much to the directors, of course, who gave me the opportunity to play for this club, and to Román in particular.

“I am grateful, and I will be grateful for life for having been able to represent this club, for having been able to wear these colors.

“Also, well, I’m taking with me a daughter born in Buenos Aires, and together with my other two daughters and my wife, we are now a family of Bosteros for the rest of our lives. Thank you for everything, and aguante Boca.”

Ander Herrera departs Boca Juniors having built up a strong connection with the club and its supporters. His next steps have not been discovered although are likely to be revealed in the coming weeks.
