New England Patriots fans continue to monitor cornerback Chrisitan Gonzalez's contract negotiations, but in the wake of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' history-making reworked deal, it's not too early to wonder how much Drake Maye will make for his next payday.
Patriots insider Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald discussed that topic in an article published on Saturday morning.
"Next spring, Drake Maye will also notably be eligible for an extension, which in light of Patrick Mahomes’ new deal, could push Maye’s contract into the neighborhood of $65-70 million per year," Callahan wrote. "So are the Patriots, who ranked dead last in cash spending from 2014-2023, according to ESPN, suddenly willing to pay top-of-the-market deals at three premium positions (cornerback, quarterback and wide receiver) all at once?"
Expectations are high for Maye coming into the 2026 campaign after the North Carolina product finished as the NFL MVP runner-up last year in his second season.
Maye said goodbye to his top target from 2025 in Stefon Diggs but got an upgrade when New England traded for three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown.
The former No. 3 overall pick recently concluded a stellar week at minicamp, which also featured an injury scare after an accidental collision with teammate and second-year edge rusher Bradyn Swinson.
