Arsenal transfer news: Bouaddi deal set to gather pace after World Cup talks
Arsenal transfer news: The north London whispers refuse to quieten down. Arsenal have spent months working away in the background on a deal for Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to French insider Sacha Tavolieri. This isn’t a tentative enquiry, either. The Gunners have laid everything on the table. They have told the teenager he is a core part of Mikel Arteta‘s blueprint, not some youth prospect destined to rot on the bench. Bouaddi, by all accounts, is well up for the move.
The issue, inevitably, is cold, hard cash. Lille are holding out for a massive €70m. For a lad who still can’t legally buy a pint in some countries, that’s serious money. Edu’s recruitment team believe their excellent relationship with Lille president Olivier Letang gives them a distinct advantage during negotiations. Paris Saint-Germain are lurking, too. But Tavolieri reckons Lille would much prefer selling abroad than arming a domestic rival week in, week out. That works beautifully in Arsenal’s favour.
Timing is everything for the Gunners
Face-to-face talks are already scheduled for immediately after the World Cup. Arteta plans to lead the charm offensive personally. Tavolieri expects the whole saga to accelerate rapidly once the tournament in North America reaches its conclusion.
Arsenal have already seen a hefty €60m opening bid swatted away by Letang. He is playing hardball, briefing the media that only an astronomical fee forces their hand. Do not expect a quick breakthrough here. This has all the hallmarks of a proper August deadline-day saga. Lille want their €70m, and they won’t blink first. But the groundwork is done. Once Bouaddi finishes his tournament run with Morocco, the Letang connection should finally unlock the gridlock.

Is he a plug-and-play starter for August? Absolutely not. Throwing him straight into a midfield already boasting Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly would be madness. He is a slow-burning signing. You buy him now to integrate him slowly, letting him absorb the tactical demands of the Premier League over twelve months. The alternative is letting a generational talent join Chelsea or PSG. Arsenal cannot afford to be that short-sighted.
