‘Better than me’ – Real Madrid legend reveals Ibrahima Konaté hope

Former Real Madrid star Pepe has this weekend revealed his hopes of success for Blancos summer signing Ibrahima Konaté.

Defender Konaté is of course fresh off committing the coming years of his career to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid.

After coming to the decision not to renew his contract terms with Liverpool, the Frenchman was snapped up by Florentino Pérez and co. as a free agent.

Konaté is fresh off a hugely underwhelming final season at Anfield, which saw the 27-year-old look a shell of his former self.

Over the years prior, though, he had built a reputation as one of the standout central defenders in all of Europe, lauded for his efforts on and off the ball alike.

And one individual hopeful that Konaté will go on to rediscover such excellence whilst lining out for his new employers is a defender boasting icon status at the Bernabéu.

Speaking during an exchange with the media this weekend, Pepe, who donned Real Madrid’s colours for a full 10 years, explained:

“I really like Ibrahima Konaté. I hope he’s better than me, it would be a sign that things are going well here at Real Madrid and that we’re winning titles. That’s what I want.”
