Liverpool transfer news: Liverpool make first decisive move in battle for Hoffenheim starlet Bazoumana Toure
Liverpool transfer news: Anfield officials have jumped the queue. Liverpool have formally registered their intent to sign Hoffenheim’s electric winger Bazoumana Toure, leaving Manchester United and a host of Premier League rivals playing catch-up.
This isn’t a simple fact-finding mission. The Reds have bypassed the usual intermediaries, making direct contact with the Bundesliga side to signal their seriousness. They want him. Regular dialogue is already underway for the 20-year-old Ivorian international, who is viewed on Merseyside as a long-term solution to a glaring squad deficiency.
Toure’s rise has been meteoric since swapping Sweden’s Hammarby for Germany in February 2025. This season, he tore the Bundesliga apart. Five goals and 12 assists in 30 appearances tell part of the story, but the underlying data is even more frightening. He topped the entire division for sprints with a staggering 763 bursts. He also ranked third for open-play crosses. Primarily a left-winger, he can easily shift across the front line.
Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker knows a massive payday is looming, publicly acknowledging that Toure’s next step must be a league of an entirely different stratosphere. The price tag? Somewhere between €40 million and €50 million. Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, and Brentford are watching closely, but Liverpool have thrown down the first serious gauntlet.
The verdict: A gamble worth taking?
Paying up to £43 million for a youngster with only 18 months of top-tier European football under his belt will always provoke nerves. It’s a massive outlay. The German top flight famously offers space that standard Premier League low-blocks completely suffocate. Plenty of Bundesliga speedsters have arrived in England only to look entirely lost.
Yet, context changes everything. Mohamed Salah has walked out the door. Luis Diaz was never properly replaced following his big-money switch to Bayern Munich. Andoni Iraola’s squad is desperately thin out wide, needing instant injections of raw pace and unpredictability. Toure provides exactly that, having clocked a terrifying top speed of 35.98 km/h this year.

He is a pure chaos factor. But where does he actually fit?
If he lands at Anfield, he enters a direct bottleneck with Cody Gakpo and teenager Rio Ngumoha on the left flank. That will inevitably stunt someone’s growth. With the club heavily linked to the likes of Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola, Toure feels more like an expensive, high-upside secondary option rather than the marquee, ready-made solution fans are desperate for. At that price, you usually buy a guarantee, not a project.
