Alisson admits ‘missing games’ for Liverpool

**Alisson has revealed he missed Liverpool games ahead of the World Cup.**

The goakeeper suffered a series of hamstring injuries throughout last season and was absent for seven of the club’s final eight Premier League fixtures.

He was also absent for the Reds’ FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City and their Champions League quarter-final elimination to Paris Saint-Germain.

Alisson’s injury woes threatened to derail his involvement for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup amid growing doubts over his availability for selection.

But the 33-year-old admitted ahead of his country’s opener with Morocco that he did not rush back to action to ensure he would be involved this summer.

“I’m 100% \[fit\],” Alisson told Estadao via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/missing-games-was-part-of-plan-liverpool-star-skipped-reds-matches-for-world-cup-fitness/).

“Missing games for Liverpool was part of the plan to make sure I was ready for the World Cup.”

Liverpool’s first-choice stopper also responded to criticisms of his form and fitness after a tumultuous campaign which led to Arne Slot’s sacking.

He added: “I am my biggest critic. No one will criticise me more than I do.

“But my criticism is based on day-to-day facts, technical and psychological reading. No one knows me better than I do.”
