The summer bonanza of international football is well underway in North America, and it’s been a decent start for the 2026 World Cup host nations so far. Mexico beat a sloppy South Africa 2-0 in the tournament opener, Canada scored late to claim a point against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the USA thumped Paraguay 4-1 at the Los Angeles Stadium.

Meanwhile, we’re just a couple of days away from the summer transfer window opening. It’s shaping up to be a frantic few weeks of wheeling and dealing, as Premier League sides look to beat their rivals to top targets ahead of next season. Last summer, the division as a whole spent over £3 billion, and that figure could well be matched again this time around.
Kicking off today’s rumours round-up, we’re off to Spain, where Real Madrid have brought back veteran manager Jose Mourinho - thirteen years on from his first turbulent spell at the Bernabeu. The club are going to go big in the transfer window after failing to win a single trophy last season, and Premier League players look to be their top targets.
It’s noted that while Los Blancos are moving quickly to try and sign free agent Bernardo Silva, following his exit from Man City, Mourinho is eager to find long-term replacements for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, which could see him sign a couple of options. The report gives no indication of how much Liverpool will ask for a player, or whether they would even entertain an offer.
The 3AM Verdict: Mac Allister didn’t have his best season at Anfield in 2025/26, with injury problems derailing his pre-season and having a knock-on effect for the rest of the campaign. Once fully fit, he could thrive under new manager Andoni Iraola, with the high octane football favoured by the Spanish coach likely to suit the Argentina international nicely.
Arsenal eye 40-goal contribution wing wizard
Next up, we’re heading over to north London, where Arsenal will be looking to win a second Premier League title in a row next season. They’re likely to sign a left-back this summer as well as a striker to compete with Viktor Gyokeres, but a left winger looks to be top of their transfer priority list.
According to The Athletic, the club have identified Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis as the man for the job. He’s been taking the Belgian top tier by storm these past two seasons, and in the 2025/26 campaign he scored 17 goals as well as assisting another 23 - quite phenomenal numbers. The report says the Gunners are now “exploring a deal”.
Further on in the story, it notes that the move wouldn’t stop them from going for Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers, who remains one of their top targets. It’s said that a bid in the region of £35m could be enough to bag 24-year-old Tzolis, who was the subject of an offer from Europa Conference League champions Crystal Palace last summer.
The 3AM Verdict: 40 goal contributions, Christos? 40? That’s insane. The Greece international certainly has the stats to back up the hype, but there’s always a risk signing a player tearing it up in a league ranked below the ‘Big Five’. He’d probably be great, but it’s worth noting he’s only scored four goals in 25 Champions League games for Brugge, which may be a warning sign.
Liverpool and Man United battle for wonderkid
Finishing things off, there looks to be a transfer battle brewing between rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, as the race for one of European football’s top young talents intensifies. According to Team Talk, both clubs are in a “packed race” to sign a TSG Hoffenheim wonderkid, with Liverpool currently the front-runners to seal a deal.
The player in question is 20-year-old Ivory Coast international Bazoumana Toure, who could set the World Cup alight this summer along with fellow young talent Yan Diomande - another player on Liverpool’s radar. The story says that have informed the player’s club that they’re looking to sign him, with the Bundesliga side said to want around £40m to do the deal.
The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool having Diomande on one wing and Toure on the other would be an absolute joy to watch, with both players boasting formidable pace and dribbling ability. Man United have other areas they need to prioritise strengthening such as left-back and central midfield, so the Reds have an ideal opportunity to swoop in while their rivals are occupied elsewhere.
