Former Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow isn’t interested in creating drama, but he admitted he was surprised to see details of his financial situation with the team become public.
Speaking Friday at his annual Skeet Shoot Showdown charity event, Ragnow was asked about his current relationship with the Lions after team president Rod Wood revealed earlier this offseason that Detroit had requested a portion of Ragnow’s signing bonus be repaid following his retirement.
Frank Ragnow Lions leak
Ragnow acknowledged the reports but made it clear he wasn’t sure why the information was made public in the first place.
“I guess that’s a tough question to answer. I’d say, obviously, the reports out there, whatever,” Ragnow said via A to Z Sports. “I don’t know why they leaked it, but that’s on them. I am trying to be a positive glass half full, whatever you say. There’s so many, I’m a people person. There’s so many great people in that facility and on that team, and I’ve got nothing but love and respect. And I’m rooting for all of them.”
The comments offer a glimpse into how Ragnow has handled one of the more uncomfortable storylines surrounding his retirement.
Despite questioning how the information became public, the former All-Pro center stopped well short of criticizing the organization. Instead, he focused on the relationships he built during eight seasons in Detroit and emphasized that he continues to support the team from afar.
If there is any lingering frustration over the contract situation, Ragnow certainly didn’t show much of it. His message was simple: he’s moving forward, and he’s still rooting for the Lions to succeed.
