Foormer Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that he would like his former teammate John Terry in England's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad. Terry retired from international football in 2012.
Cut to the present: the Three Lions are one of favourites to go all the way in North America this summer. Thomas Tuchel's side commence their campaign for a first title in six decades against 2018 finalists Croatia on Wednesday (June 17) at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Asked about the Golden Generation player he would have in the current England team, Lampard picked his former Blues teammate Terry ahead of Wayne Rooney.
“JT for me, all day long. Wayne (Rooney), obviously, you know, but when you think of the options we have in those positions, Harry Kane is Harry Kane, forget about it, Wayne can play around him, but JT would offer loads to this team,” Lampard said on Rest is Football on Netflix (via HITC).
In an international career spanning nearly a decade (2003-2012), Terry made 78 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring six times, playing four major tournaments, including two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010). He was the only Englishman in the 2006 All-Star squad.
Lampard, meanwhile, enjoyed a longer international career (1999-2014), registering 106 appearances and scoring 29 times. Like his good friend Terry, he also represented The Three Lions at four major tournaments, including three World Cups.

Eleven Chelsea players are set to appear for nine different nations at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicked off earlier this week in Mexico, USA and Canada.
Among them, Ecuador (Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez) and Senegal (Mamadou Sarr and Nicolas Jackson) will feature two Blues players apiece. Defending champions Argentina (Enzo Fernandez) and six other nations will have one representative each.
Reece James is the only Chelsea player in England's squad, with Cole Palmer not finding a place in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad. Meanwhile, Marc Cucurella is the only Blues player in reigning European champions Spain's squad.
