Manchester United have poached one of Newcastle United’s academy scouts.
Harvey Busby has officially joined the Red Devils, having spent just under three years at Newcastle.
Busby joined the Magpies as an academy player recruitment analyst back in 2023 before becoming the club’s lead academy technical scout at just 23-years-old.
Spotting his potential and ability, Man United have swooped in and appointed Busby as their new Lead National Scout for the Under-14s to Under-18s.
Announcing his move on LinkedIn, Busby wrote: “I’m delighted to share that I have joined Manchester United as Lead National Scout (U14–U18).
“Excited for the opportunity and looking forward to contributing to the Academy and talent pathway.”
Man United’s move comes after Newcastle’s head of youth recruitment Paul Midgley turned down an offer to move to Old Trafford earlier this year.
Midgley joined Newcastle in 2022 from Manchester City, where he had a seven-month spell as their Northern UK youth scouting manager.
Before that, Midgley spent two years as head of national academy recruitment at Leeds United and another two years in charge of lead recruitment at Sunderland’s Academy of Light.
Midgley was widely expected to take on the role as Man United’s academy head of recruitment having previously worked with director of football Jason Wilcox and new academy chief Stephen Torpey at Man City.
However, Midgley stayed on Tyneside and Man United promoted Connor Hunter to the role instead, replacing Luke Fedorenko.
