A former Newcastle United goalkeeper is attracting interest from Manchester United.
Darlow joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest in 2014 and, after spending his first season back on loan at City Ground, went on to make 100 appearances during his eight years at St James’ Park. The 35-year-old produced some standout saves in Newcastle colours but ultimately failed to nail down the number one spot.
Darlow spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Hull City before joining Leeds United on a permanent basis in the following summer.
The Wales international has mostly played second fiddle at Elland Road but in the last few months has been promoted to number one following a series of errors by Lucas Perri.
After their defeat at Newcastle on January 7, Darlow started all of Leeds’ remaining Premier League games as they fought off relegation.
Manchester United consider Karl Darlow move
Darlow is out of contract on June 30 and while Leeds hope to tie him down to a new deal, other clubs are circling. Darlow has already been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and now, according to The Athletic, Man United are also weighing up a move.
The Red Devils are looking for an experienced back-up goalkeeper with Darlow and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Sam Johnstone under consideration.
Karl Darlow opens on his Newcastle United exit
Discussing his Newcastle exit recently, Darlow told the official Leeds United podcast.“I was at Newcastle. I’d been there a long time and, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the place and I loved the club, but at the time I wasn’t playing and I was getting no younger, and I went out on loan to Hull.
“I really enjoyed my time at Hull, with the intention for myself of getting out that summer. That’s why I did the loan, because I wanted to leave in the summer, knowing that I wasn’t going to be the first choice.
“I wasn’t going to be the second choice, and I didn’t want to play the third-choice role because I felt like I could give more than that still at this time in my career.
“So yes, it came at exactly the right time, and thankfully Leeds United wanted me, and yes, the rest is history.”
