Stefan Bajcetic “back on track” in exciting update from AXA Training Centre

Stefan Bajcetic has shared an exciting update on his return to full training with Liverpool, with the Spaniard “back on track” working at the AXA over summer.

Bajcetic has now gone over two years since playing for Liverpool’s first team and 13 months since his last game in any capacity.

A series of setbacks in his fitness have left the midfielder a forgotten man, with this summer a crucial stage in his career as he enters the final year of his contract.

That makes Bajcetic’s latest update a timely one, with the 21-year-old sharing a behind-the-scenes view of his work at the AXA on Instagram.

“Back on track,” was his simple caption, following reports from BBC Sport‘s Aadam Patel that he is targeting a comeback in time for pre-season.

Liverpool will report for their first sessions under new head coach Andoni Iraola in just under a month’s time and Bajcetic could feasibly be involved from day one.

He has resumed ball work on the outdoor pitches while working extensively in the gym, with the next month an important one as he steps up his recovery.

Does Stefan Bajcetic have a future at Liverpool?

Given the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines – hamstring surgery ended his loan spell with Las Palmas just before the end of the season in 2024/25 – it is difficult to gauge where Bajcetic stands at Liverpool.

But a change of head coach, particularly with the appointment of a fellow Spaniard in Iraola, could offer a fresh start.

Bajcetic will be eligible as a homegrown player in the Premier League next season and that increases his chances of staying as a first-team option.

A number of Liverpool’s other midfielders are also facing uncertain futures this summer with Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo all touted with an exit.

Iraola will have a decision to make over Harvey Elliott, who returns from a bleak loan spell with Aston Villa and had attracted interest from RB Leipzig.

It would be remiss to consider Bajcetic a contender for a starting role at this stage, but if he proves his fitness over an extended period of time a place in the squad is not out of contention.

Liverpool will be without a number of key players for the start of pre-season due to the World Cup along with existing injuries.

Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) and Conor Bradley (knee) remain sidelined but centre-backs Jeremy Jacquet (shoulder) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) should be fit for day one.
