Manchester United are reportedly showing an interest in signing Barcelona star Marc Casado, in a move that could affect the future of Marcus Rashford. United face a busy summer transfer window ahead, and the future of Rashford is likely to dominate the rumour mill over the next couple of months.

United are already being linked with a host of potential new signings and midfield is likely to be an area of the squad where the Reds will see the majority of the speculation.

Following the departure of Casemiro on a free transfer, United have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta star Ederson in a move worth an initial £35m, plus a further £3.8million in add-ons, to take the total package up to £38.8million.

Even with a deal to sign Ederson nearly wrapped up, United are still being linked with a new midfielder, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Casado has emerged as a player of interest to United this summer, but will face competition from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.

Casado made 34 appearances for Barcelona last season and has predominantly featured in a defensive midfield role when playing for the La Liga giants, and United are reportedly "monitoring" the 23-year-old this summer.

It remains to be seen whether or not United have a genuine interest in signing Casado this summer, and their rumoured interest could go on to affect Rashford’s future.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he enjoyed an impressive spell that saw him score 14 goals and provide 14 assists across all competitions for the La Liga giants.

The England international has previously stated his desire to remain at Barcelona on a permanent basis, with the Spanish club having the option of signing Rashford for £26million.

However, it has recently been claimed that Barcelona will not activate this clause, indicating that Rashford will return to United this summer, although it has been suggested that another loan could be on the cards.

Barcelona have instead opted to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle in a deal worth €80million (£69million), with the former Everton star typically playing in the same position as Rashford.

Now that United are reportedly interested in signing Casado, it remains to be seen if this could create an opportunity for Rashford to return to Barcelona ahead of next season.
