Pompey rivals close in on £1.7m signing as West Brom win race for ace

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

The transfer window is less than 24 hours away from opening and it’s expected to be an exciting summer at Fratton Park.

John Mousinho is anticipating plenty of business both incoming and outgoing as he looks to prime his squad for the upcoming campaign.

It is believed the former Ajax talent is deep in negotiations with Pompey, who are looking to exploit a relegation clause inserted in his deal.

Elsewhere, gossip and speculation continues to do the rounds across the Championship as clubs look to get their summer spending underway.

Here are the latest transfer headlines involving the Blues’ rivals.

Norwich City close in on midfielder

Norwich City are reportedly closing in on a loan move for Brazilian starlet Bruno Alves.

The Pink’Un have revealed the central defender is in England to seal a season-long switch from top-flight outfit Cruzeiro.

It is believed the Canaries have negotiated a purchase option with the Brazilian side for next summer, which is thought to be around the £1.7m mark.

Alves has reportedly already completed a medical and is expected to become Phillipe Clement’s first signing of the summer window.

The Carrow Road outfit have been tracking the highly-rated Brazilian U20 international as they searched for left-sided young talents.

After coming through the ranks with Cruzeiro, the defender has yet to register a first-team outing, but has been named on the bench four times in Brazil’s top-flight this season.

Norwich, of course, enjoyed an impressive turn of form under Clement during the second-half of the campaign, with a point against Pompey on Good Friday helping them to a ninth-placed finish.

West Brom have fended off Premier League interest to land Liverpool youngster Carter Pinnington, according to reports.

It has been suggested Pompey’s rivals have beaten Championship and top-flight clubs for the centre-back, who is yet to register a first-team outing at Anfield.

Pinnington has risen through the ranks on Merseyside and signed his first professional contract in 2024.

Although the young defender has yet to make his senior debut for the Reds, he did appear on the bench on a number of occasions in the Premier League under Arne Slot last term.
