Christen Goff, the wife of Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, clarified a crucial part of how their relationship began in a recent interview. The 33-year-old model revealed she nearly swiped past him on the dating app Raya.
Inan interview with PEOPLE, Christen shared details about how they met and their early courtship. She said shehad nearly avoided dating the Lions star, but his persistence over weeks finally led her to agree.
“It was on a dating app (Raya),” she recalled while discussing where they met. “I think both of us were kind of not taking it too seriously. Like, you never really think you’re going to meet someone on a dating app, but we did.
“He picked me up for a first date and he took me to one of my favorite restaurants. I didn’t know that at the time, but now it’s still my favorite restaurant. We just hit it off right from the start.”

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model admitted that her future husband’s digital profile sparked her interest.
“He had a picture with his mom, which I thought was really sweet,” she explained. “And I got the sweet guy energy, which he is the sweetest.
“And then in person, he picked me up, he opened my car door and I was like, oh, I don’t think this has ever happened before. He was just the best from day one.”
Christen said she had just come out of a breakup and intended to remain single at the time. She thought the NFL star was looking for a commitment, and that was the exact part that made her hesitate to date him.
“I wasn’t really looking,” Christen revealed. “I had just gotten out of a long relationship and I was just trying to live my single life.”
“So I almost didn’t even like go out at first because I was like, this guy looks like boyfriend material and I wasn’t really looking for that,” she continued. “But I’m glad I did because where would I be without him.”
Christen also admitted she had no idea who Jared was or how famous he was when they first matched.
“I knew he was a football player and he thinks I lie when I say this, but I didn’t know who he was,” she confessed. “Also, he was playing for the Rams in L.A., which they had just kind of got back to L.A. They weren’t that big of a deal there yet.
“I actually grew up a hockey girl. My brother played hockey growing up. So I wasn’t paying as much attention to football at the time. Now it’s my whole world and I can’t imagine life without football.”
The pair both lived in California when they first crossed pathsin 2019. Christen was pursuing her modeling and acting career at the time, while Jared was the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams selected Jared with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The 31-year-old quarterback spent five seasons in Los Angeles before a trade sent him to Detroit in 2021.
After dating for three years, the couple got engaged in 2022 and married in 2024. In July 2025, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Romy.
