Ruben Amorim’s next managerial step appears to be taking shape after six months out of the scene after his reign at Manchester United ended.
The Portuguese manager, infamous for his spell at Sporting CP in which the club won two Liga Portugal titles, has been closely linked with the AC Milan managerial job in recent weeks.
Amorim was reported to be set for direct talks with Milan and has since emerged a leading contender for the manager role.
Nicolo Schira reports that an agreement has been struck between the two parties with the former Manchester United boss set to sign a contract until 2029.
Amorim is reportedly confident that he will secure the job and, with just one green light to get, it appears that he is going to undertake his first managerial spell in Italy.
James Ducker, for The Telegraph, now reports that Manchester United are set to benefitted by the move with the club’s compensation bill to Ruben Amorim going down as a result of him securing the manager role at AC Milan.
Ducker claims that United will save millions in compensation payments if the deal goes through. The Red Devils’ accounting reports, published in February, showed that the club faced a bill of £15.9m to cover both the cost of Ruben Amorim leaving the club and the cost of his coaches leaving the club too.
With that figure now expected to be slashed, the club will free up further funds. In a period where financial security is at the heart of what Manchester United do, savings such as this are essential.
Amorim’s next move is one that influences the past, present, and future. A date with destiny is set for the two on August 15th with Manchester United and AC Milan set to meet in a friendly.
