Former Cowboys Star Passes Away After Helping Charity
The body of Aldon Smith was found slumped over in the car of his friend on Saturday, less than an hour before he was pronounced dead.
It was announced on Saturday afternoon that the former 49ers, Raiders, and Cowboys star had passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. He was just 36-years-old. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Smith had been found with his mouth open by his friend Amir Shirazi in the passenger seat of Shirazi’s Chevrolet pickup truck not long before.
In an interview with the outlet, Shirazi said that he thought Smith was sleeping, but he also observed that his body was twitching slightly. The call to 911 was made shortly thereafter, but Smith was unable to be revived. His cause of death has not yet been determined by the chief medical examiner of Santa Clara County.
Upon exiting Shirazi’s car, Smith appeared “lethargic,” according to the co-founder of the organization, Scott Wagers.
Despite this, the pizza delivery was carried out and Shirazi later drove Smith back to his Los Gatos, California, home.
According to Shirazi, he went inside to turn on some lights before returning to his car and finding his friend “basically dead.” Smith was wearing a Willis Reed Knicks jersey and was planning to watch the NBA Finals that evening.
Smith spent the final year of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys (2020). That season he racked up:
16 games payed
2 pass deflections
2 fumble recoveries
1 fumble recovery for a touchdown
78 fumble recovery yards (led the league that year)
5.0 sacks
48 total tackles
31 solo tackles
5 tackles for loss
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this sudden and tragic death..
