The New England Patriots are leaving no box unchecked when it comes to rookie first-round draft pick Caleb Lomu.
Lomu was the starting right tackle at mandatory mini-camp. He was forced into the starting lineup after a mysterious injury suffered during OTAs put 35-year-old right tackle Morgan Moses, who started all 21 games during the Patriots' Super Bowl run, onto the sidelines.
Moses was physically present at the third and final day of mini-camp and was seen coaching up Lomu and others.

When Lomu was not running with the ones on the right side of the offensive line, he was the understudy at left tackle behind 2025 first-round pick Will Campbell.
He took nearly all of the reps with the second offensive line at left tackle.
ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that, in addition to playing both left and right tackle, Lomu was also getting his feet under him at both offensive guard positions. Reiss said Lomu's hopping around from position to position looked "mostly seamless."
It is unlikely Lomu's career will head in this direction in the long term, given his prototypical tackle stature, but clearly New England has a plan for how the 21-year-old will be used in his first season.
Head coach Mike Vrabel wants to make sure that he is getting something out of his pick, which was undoubtedly made with the future of the right tackle position in mind, before the position comes open.
If all goes according to plan over the offseason, Lomu will be able to fill in at every position on the offensive line besides center if a player goes down. Plugging in a first-round pick is a luxury few teams have when it comes to offensive line depth.
Additionally, I expect Lomu to see a lot of snaps as the sixth offensive lineman in a heavy run-first offensive package.
