Ruben Amorim could be close to landing a new job, six months after his dismissal as Manchester United manager.
Amorim was relieved of his duties following a poor run of results and performances. A public attack on United’s hierarchy also contributed to his departure.
He registered a 38 percent win percentage — the lowest of any United permanent manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Amorim is now on the verge of becoming AC Milan’s new manager. He is reportedly in advanced talks to take over the position, replacing Massimiliano Allegri.
If he eventually becomes Milan manager, his new side would face United in a pre-season friendly on August 15 in Wroclaw, Poland.
How Amorim’s new job could save United millions of pounds
United’s decision to sack Amorim came at a financial expense. The club are expected to pay £16 million as a compensation fee to the Portuguese.
However, the final compensation package was dependent on several factors, including the 41-year-old getting a new job within a particular time, according to The Standard.
The good news for United is that the fee would now be slashed if he Amorim lands the Milan managerial role.
While it is unclear how much United would save, it could prove crucial for their ambition this summer.
The Mancunian giants have already agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but are still exploring the market for further midfield additions.
West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott are on their radar. A deal for the duo is expected to cost more than £100m.
United are also targeting a left-back to compete with Luke Shaw, while a strikercould be signed if Joshua Zirkzee leaves the club.
