Manchester United have had the agreement to complete the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson for some time, with the Brazilian set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract.
It’s an important early coup, with the midfield market set to be seriously bloated this summer. It first appeared that the 26-year-old’s late call-up to the Brazil national team squad would delay official confirmation of his transfer to England.
But according to Corriere dello Sport, Ederson’s Manchester United medical is set to be conducted in New York on June 14, a day after Brazil’s opener against Morocco, which the soon-to-be Red Devils player did not feature in.
The outlet reports that after this, signatures will be exchanged to complete the final steps of the deal, confirming Ederson as a definitive Manchester United player.
It’s an exciting moment, which goes to show an announcement could be made during the World Cup. With the transfer window opening on June 15, Ederson’s move can be made official, with no going back.
With the deal set to enter its final stages momentarily, Manchester United can, and may already have, turned their focus elsewhere. The midfield position remains a room for improvement, with Mateus Fernandes likely to sign for the club.
As well as midfield signings, a move at left-back could be made. While United missed out on a deal for Marc Cucurella, who is set to sign for Real Madrid, Lewis Hall could be a player they decide to swoop for. Conducting a medical for the English full-back will be a simpler issue, after the 21-year-old missed out on a place in his nation’s World Cup squad.
Manchester United are going to sign Ederson. What comes next will be extremely interesting, but incomings and outgoings must be completed.
