“It’s been a rough few years thankfully getting a bit of a run at it this year. My role has changed in the team. As you get older, these things happen, I’m just happy to contribute in whatever way is possible. That being getting whatever minutes off the bench, it’s working so far, it’s probably what I’m good for,” Damien Comer said after Galway’s win over Westmeath.
After missing all of the National Football League through injury, Galway forward Damien Comer has made appearances off the bench in the Tribesmen’s four championship games against Leitrim, Roscommon, Kildare and Westmeath.
“It’s more so that’s the way it has worked out, just with certain injuries and not having the bank of work done playing 70 minutes might never be a reality. Then you’re looking forward to the next weekend if you want to be available for the next game playing 70 minutes mightn’t be the smartest option. That’s between the management team, the physios and stuff, we’ll just manage it as best as possible and see what’s best for the team,” added Comer.
Comer gave Galway a huge outlet on the edge of the square in the second half during Galway’s 3-21 to 2-21 win over Westmeath in round two of the All-Ireland SFC on Sunday afternoon in Pearse Stadium.
The Annaghdown clubman said it is huge for Galway now to have two weeks to prepare for an All-Ireland quarter-final.
“It’s massive for us as a group, the last few years we’ve messed up in that department. We’ve ended up in the preliminary quarter-final where you have three weeks on the bounce at least now we have next weekend off to prepare for the quarter-final so it’s great.”
After Galway’s win over Westmeath, Damien Comer caught up with Tribune Sport.
