I have to admit this is a result that surprised me quite a bit.
The Jets selected two pass catchers, Sadiq and Cooper, in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft. Both will almost certainly step into the starting lineup. Immediate production will be expected.
Mitchell has been in the league for two years. While he has shown flashes, most notably in the Jets’ 2025 victory over the Atlanta Falcons but only has 56 catches for 765 yards, and 2 touchdowns in 33 games.
It isn’t that Mitchell lacks upside. It’s just a surprise for me to see Mitchell get this sort of love over the two players the Jets just selected at the top of the NFL Draft.
Time will tell which target emerges as the second option.
