Tunisia were made to pay for their mistakes in their 2026 World Cup opener, falling to a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in Monterrey, Mexico.
Yasin Ayari broke the deadlock on six minutes after Tunisia goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh fumbled a clearance. Chamakh was at fault again on the half-hour mark after he failed to get a strong enough hand on Alexander Isak's low drive.
Omar Rekik's header on the stroke of half time offered Tunisia hope but that was extinguished when Isak dispossessed captain Ellyes Skhiri on the edge of his area and the ball fell invitingly for Victor Gyokeres to rifle home Sweden's third.
Mattias Svanberg had the ball in the net for a fourth Sweden goal. The substitute had only been on the pitch 12 seconds and was offside from the original ball in. However, after a VAR review, Isak was judged to have touched the ball, by which time Svanberg had got himself onside, and the goal stood.
Ayari sealed a superb Sweden performance with another strike from range deep into injury time.
