Swedish press react to Gyökeres display vs Tunisia

Sweden started their World Cup campaign with a 5-1 rout of Tunisia at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico.

Graham Potter’s side went into the game as frontrunners and asserted their dominance with a fine showing.

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres has been a star performer for Sweden and delivered another top-notch display.

The 28-year-old provided an assist for Alexander Isak for the second goal in the 30th minute.

He scored one of his own before the hour mark to put Sweden into a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Gyökeres squandered another big opportunity, but the Swedish press praised him for his performance.

Fotbollskanalen said that it was a ‘very good effort’ from Gyökeres, who was involved in Sweden’s first three goals.

The outlet wrote: ‘Gyökeres was at the forefront, was involved in the 1-0 goal, passed the ball to Isak at 2-0 and scored himself to make it 3-1. A very good effort.’

Popular publication Helsingborgs Dagblad praised Gyökeres alongside Yasin Ayari and Alexander Isak after ‘attacking football of the finest brand’ on Sunday.

HD published: ‘In Monterrey, Yasin Ayari set the tone, and both started and ended the goal celebration. Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak entertained with attacking football of the finest brand.’

Gyökeres had a top-notch showing for his country once more. Aside from his goal contributions, he completed 17 passes and won 67 percent of his aerial duels.

He also worked decently off the ball with five recoveries and won possession twice in the final third. He caught the eye with his chemistry alongside Alexander Isak upfront.

Sweden made the perfect start with a statement 5-1 win over Tunisia, but face a tough assignment when they take on the Netherlands, who drew 2-2 against Japan on Sunday.

Gyökeres has been in stellar form for his country, scoring in each of his last four caps. He has seven goal contributions in that run and has the chance to extend that streak against the Dutch.
