‘Active contact’ - Fabrizio Romano drops Man United update for £80m Newcastle United star

Newcastle United do not want to sell prized asset Lewis Hall this summer.

Manchester United reportedly hold a genuine interest in signing Lewis Hall this summer.

Speculation has emerged regarding the Toon youngster in recent weeks. Hall was arguably Newcastle’s standout performer in 2025-26 - narrowly missing out on the Player of the Season award to Bruno Guimaraes.

However, many have attributed a mixed end to the campaign - which saw Hall dropped before playing a variety of positions - to him missing out on a World Cup spot. NewcastleWorld understands ensuing reports claiming the 21-year-old has fallen out with Eddie Howe to be wide of the mark.

Manchester United interest

Several outlets have claimed Man United view Hall as their No.1 target at left-back. Luke Shaw turns 31 next month and the Red Devils can offer higher wages - as well as Champions League football.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano “Over the last two-three days, Man United have maintained active contact with those close to Lewis Hall. They have a genuine interest in the player. Left-back remains a position they want to cover, and Hall is a player they really, really love at United.”

Newcastle United stance on Lewis Hall

Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson has repeatedly stated that the club do not wish to engage in another Alexander Isak saga. This was evident in the swift sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.

Every player has his price - although the Magpies desperately do not wish to lose Hall. They view the England international as a future superstar who can fill the left-back spot for the next decade.

Despite reports from Man United circles, Hall has not indicated that he is unhappy at St James’ Park. The youngster made 46 appearances for Newcastle last season and recognises that, under Howe, he has developed into one of the Premier League’s top full-backs.
