Manchester City reported to be preparing move for Leeds United-linked Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a move to re-sign goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday.
The 20-year-old cut his teeth in the Manchester City academy before moving over to Wednesday’s youth system back in 2021.
He has since blossomed into one of the EFL’s most exciting young talents, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Hillsborough and attracting a raft of admirers.

Manchester City ‘preparing’ Pierce Charles move
Manchester City have been credited with interest in getting Charles back on board and according to TEAMtalk, the Premier League giants are preparing a swoop.
They are thought to have given consideration to signing Charles and then sending him out on loan, although the current preference is reportedly to keep him as an understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
He would be replacing James Trafford as the deputy amid talk of a move away from the Etihad Stadium for the England international.
Leeds United, coincidentally, have been linked with both Trafford and Charles. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Cardiff City and Rangers have also been mooted as potential destinations for the latter.
Pierce Charles’ future
For Charles, the lure of Manchester City could prove strong, but he would have to accept that minutes would be limited.
The 20-year-old would benefit from learning alongside one of the world’s elite goalkeepers, although would have to sacrifice regular action in order to reap that particular reward.

Recent reports indicated Wednesday are looking to agree on a new contract for Charles, who is due to see his current deal expire next year.
If an agreement cannot be reached, it would make sense for the Owls to sell rather than risk losing the Northern Ireland international on a free transfer.
Charles, the younger brother of Southamptom midfielder Shea, has made 36 senior appearances in Wednesday colours.
