Jurgen Klopp is making waves as a pundit at the 2026 World Cup, and he has apologised to Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann for a controversial word he used.
The legendary former Liverpool manager wears his heart on his sleeve and isn’t immune to making errors with comments, and that has happened with Nagelsmann.
Working on Magenta TV, Klopp accidentally said that the current Germany manager is “still” picking the team, being perceived that he shouldn’t or won’t be for much longer.
Speaking on Sunday evening, prior to Germany’s 7-1 win over Curacao, Klopp issued an apology to his compatriot, making it clear that it was a slip of the tongue in conversation with Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller.
“I’ve already found the most hated word of the year: ‘Still'”, Klopp said.
“I could have punched myself in the face for that, but it was already too late and I was on TV.
“It just slipped out so casually, and has absolutely no relevance. What I’ve realised is, I’ll be 59 on Tuesday and I’m still an idiot.
“We are completely on your side, whatever you do with this. Nothing will come of it that is intended to disrupt the process here.”
Jurgen Klopp enjoying life as a pundit on TV!
Klopp seems to be loving life away from management, looking more carefree and youthful, and being able to watch him as a pundit must be a joy in Germany.
While UK viewers have to put up with the likes of the over-exposed Gary Neville and eternally-negative Lee Dixon, their fans have an iconic, charismatic figure to enjoy.
Klopp and Muller have created a strong bond in recent weeks, playing padel together and having an on-air chemistry, and it makes for great viewing.
But the German will also be upset that he has potentially shown disrespect to Nagelsmann, even though his comments were misconstrued.
He has strong morals and knows how difficult the job is, and he would never intentionally talk down another manager at such a key moment for the national team.
We wait with bated breath to see what Klopp says next!
