Marc Cucurella has officially left Chelsea, with the Spaniard signing a six-year contract with Real Madrid.

Cucurella, who signed for Chelsea in August 2022, has completed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu after Los Blancos agreed a £51.7million package with the Blues on Sunday afternoon. The west Londoners will receive €55m (£47.4m fixed) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the left-back.

Chelsea were not actively looking to sell Cucurella, sources say, but once the Spain international informed the club of his desire to leave, they would not stand in his way if the price was right.

The Blues said on Cucurella : "Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements. We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid released the following statement : "Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032."

Cucurella grew frustrated at Stamford Bridge towards the back end of last season and let his feelings be known during the March international break. Not long after Enzo Fernandez had spoken publicly about his frustration, Cucurella followed suit with a bombshell interview while Liam Rosenior was still in charge.

In said interview, the Spaniard opened up about his love for Enzo Maresca and how he was annoyed about the way the former head coach departed the club. Cucurella also detailed the lack of experience in the squad and how they would need to change their transfer strategy in order to compete for major honours again.

Internally, Chelsea rate Jorrel Hato, who was often used as cover for Cucurella during the 2025/26 season, very highly and were delighted with his progress during the second half of the campaign. The Blues could look to sign another left-back now Cucurella has officially departed.
