Huddersfield Town have had quite the intertwined story with Manchester United over the past few years.
It’s not overly surprising considering the distance between the two areas.
There are less than 40 miles between Old Trafford in Manchester and Accu Stadium in Huddersfield.
Most recently, the major connections between the two clubs have been in the coaching department.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant was appointed Huddersfield Town head coach just before the 2025/26 season.
After Grant was sacked, former Manchester United academy coach Martin Drury replaced him until the end of the season and he’s subsequently taken on the role permanently.
And the new 2026/27 season has seen The Terriers bring another former Manchester United connection to the club.
Huddersfield Town have officially signed former Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher.
Fletcher has signed on a two year contract and moves on a free transfer from Blackpool.
Ashley Fletcher had an outstanding season for Blackpool in 2025/26 as he won four player of the season awards for the club.
It’s clear that Huddersfield Town noted those performances and are hoping that the former Manchester United academy graduate will fire the club to glory in League One this season.
Ashley Fletcher has had quite the varied career and well traveled career so far with stints at the likes of West Ham United, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Watford and even New York Red Bulls among the sides that he’s represented.
21 goals and six assists across 50 appearances in all competitions last season were the numbers that the striker put together while playing for The Tangerines and he’ll be looking to replicate that form in Huddersfield.
“Heading into this summer, my sole focus was on ensuring I joined the right side to make the most of my game and build on the form I’ve enjoyed in recent seasons,” Fletcher told the official Huddersfield Town website.
“After speaking to Chris and Martin there was no doubt about signing for Town, and having played against the Club so many times over the years, I couldn’t be more excited to now be on the same team.
“This is a big Club with really exciting ambition, but the clarity in knowing how we want to play and the feeling we provide our supporters was what appealed the most. The facilities at both Canalside and the stadium are top class, so I’m really looking to the hard work to come in pre-season and doing what I can to set ourselves up for the season ahead”.
Ashley Fletcher will join his team mates later this month when they begin their pre-season preparations.
Huddersfield Town play Birmingham City in their first pre-season friendly in July.
