The Spaniard joined Real Madrid last summer for a reported £43.5million
Former Preston North End loan star Alvaro Carreras has been linked with a return to Manchester United.

The Spaniard has not looked back since his impressive spell at Deepdale during the 2022/23 season. He headed to Granada and Benfica on loan the following year, before sealing a permanent move to the Portuguese giants in the summer of 2024.
On the back of his first, full campaign there, Real Madrid came calling and secured his signature for a reported €50m last summer. Carreras made 40 appearances across all competitions, with 29 of those starts.
However, there has been a change of manager at the Bernabeu Stadium with Jose Mourinho returning to the dugout as replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa. And, the 63-year-old has wasted no time in bringing a new left-back through the door.
Madrid have signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported £51.8million. Immediately, speculation has surfaced around a possible return to Old Trafford for Carreras. He spent four years on United’s books but never made a first team appearance.
The 23-year-old’s career will always be followed closely by Preston supporters, whom he built a strong rapport with over the course of his loan stint. The Spaniard played 42 games for North End that season, assisting six goals and winning Young Player of the Year.
