Competition for places is one of the most intriguing aspects of youth football and that especially applies to the goalkeeping position.
With Khari Ranson and Jack Porter now moving up to the U21 squad on a full-time basis a space will open up with regards to the first-choice goalkeeping position for Arsenal U18s next season.
As things stand it seems like it will be a direct battle between two second year scholars in Jack Talbot and Remi Lupinski.
Talbot (pictured) came all the way through the system at Hale End and has made ten appearances for the U18s, while he has also been named on the bench for the U21s and U19s. He even featured as an outfield player for the U18s in an emergency situation against Crystal Palace.
A good commander of his penalty area who has impressive reflexes, Talbot has endured difficulties with injuries but is now eager to push on in his development.
Lupinski, meanwhile, is gearing up for his second season at Arsenal following his move from MK Dons last year.
He has also played ten times for the U18s and has kept one more clean sheet than Talbot although he has conceded more goals.
It will be very interesting to see who the U18s coaching staff select as the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign.
There is also a talented trio of U16 goalkeepers who will be pushing for involvement with the U18 squad in Charlie Phillips, Max Lo Presti and expected new signing Phoenix Blayney.
