Real Madrid officially sign left-back linked with Manchester United

Real Madrid are moving fast already.

The LaLiga giants shocked the football world when they announced that Jose Mourinho had rejoined the club.

Mourinho was returning to the Madrid capital after a spell in his native Portugal with Benfica.

And less than a week after his appointment, the club have confirmed their first signing of the 2026/27 season.

Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella on a 6 year deal until 2032.

Cucurella will also become the first signing under the new Jose Mourinho era at the Bernabeu.

In completing the signing of Marc Cucurella, it appears that Real Madrid have beaten a number of clubs to his signature.

One of those was reportedly Manchester United.

Just last week, it was being reported that United were monitoring the situation of Cucurella at Chelsea with an eye to a possible move.

The Spain international, currently at the FIFA World Cup in the United States, was also reported to be of interest to Real’s city rivals Atletico Madrid.

But Los Blancos have moved quickly to wrap this deal up and formally complete the signing of Marc Cucurella.

The news will be interesting on a number of fronts.

Firstly, Real Madrid signed a former Manchester United left-back just last season in Alvaro Carreras.

Madrid paid a big fee to bring the 23-year-old back to the Bernabeu (Carreras was part of the Real Madrid youth academy before his move to United) but his first season didn’t quite have the impact he nor the club would have wanted.

To see the club sign another high profile left-back for big money once again might be an ominous sign for the talented defender.

Secondly, it’s also interesting news for Manchester United fans.

It’s been widely known that the club are exploring options at left-back.

CentreDevils exclusively reported that Manchester United made contract for Lewis Hall, who has excelled while playing for Newcastle United.

With Marc Cucurella having joined Real Madrid, the gossip columns will not be able to link him to Old Trafford any further and the noise around Lewis Hall may increase further.

If not, expect to see some other left-back names linked with United as the transfer window opens.

For now, Marc Cucurella will be looking to continue his career back in his native Spain rather than in England.
