Barcelona take step towards re-signing €7m forward

Barcelona have already wrapped up the signing of Anthony Gordon, but there could still be one more winger signed this summer. The possible departure of Roony Bardghji would open up a space in Hansi Flick’s attacking options, and it’s one that could be filled by a familiar face.

Given that Barcelona want to spend big on a new striker, they must look to fill any other needs with low-cost options. The Catalans want to re-sign Joao Cancelo as full-back cover, while they are also in the market for a new central defender, which has been one of the great desires since Inigo Martinez joined Al-Nassr last summer.

It won’t be easy for Barcelona to bring in low-cost defenders that are good enough for Flick, but that’s not the case when it comes to the possible signing of another wing option. Jan Virgili, who was sold to Mallorca in 2025, is able to be re-signed this summer for a bargain price of €7m, given that he has an active relegation release clause of €12m, coupled with the fact that the Catalans have 40% of his rights.

At this stage, Barcelona are considering whether to bring Virgili back to the Spotify Camp. As reported by MD, the 19-year-old attacker’s representatives held talks with sporting director Deco on Monday, and the Portuguese may need to act fast if he is to get a deal done.

Given how impressive Virgili was during his debut season at Mallorca, it is no surprise that several clubs are looking to sign him this summer. Many of those in the race would be prepared to activate his €12m release clause, which is why Barcelona must make a decision soon on whether they wish to pay €7m to bring him back to Catalonia.
