Liverpool executives have “made the trip” to the 2026 World Cup to watch Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi in action, according to journalist Santi Aouna.
The 18-year-old caught the eye hugely against Brazil on Saturday night, showcasing his vast potential in the 1-1 draw, and he has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent days.
In fact, contact has reportedly been made regarding a transfer, as Liverpool look to add much-needed legs and quality in the middle of the park.
Now, Aouna has taken to X to provide an update on the Reds’ pursuit of Bouaddi, saying executives have travelled to watch him closely:
“Liverpool executives made the trip to New York’s MetLife Stadium specifically to watch Ayyoub Bouaddi pla. The Reds have added him to their shortlist, just like Lamine Camara and others.Several clubs are closely following the Moroccan’s progress: PSG, Arsenal, Tottenham, and many more.”
Ayyoub Bouaddi can help transform Liverpool’s midfield
Bouaddi has shown in one game against Brazil why he is such a sought-after player, performing with incredible maturity against the World Cup’s most successful team.
In fact, Thierry Henry even claimed he should have won the Man of the Match award instead of Vinicius Junior, discussing his admiration for him after the game:
“I don’t understand how Bouaddi doesn’t win Man of the Match. Yes, Vinicius scored. Goals are important. Nobody is denying that. But football is ninety minutes, not one moment. Outside of the goal, I thought Bouaddi had a much bigger impact on the game. Every time Morocco needed composure, he was there. Every time Brazil tried to increase the pressure, he found a way to escape it. For a young player to show that level of maturity against Brazil is extraordinary.”
There is an understandable battle for Bouaddi’s signature, but if Liverpool win the race for him this summer, it could prove to be an unbelievable coup.
Predicting the career trajectory of any young player is hard, but if the Moroccan reaches his potential, he can be a sensational part of the Reds’ midfield for years, combining quality on the ball and a relentless work ethic.
