Middlesborough want a package of around £25million for crown jewel Hayden Hackney, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim Everton are expected to come back in for the 23-year-old, having seen their original reported £18m offer, including £7m in add-ons, knocked back.

They also reckon Crystal Palace will make their own move, amid speculation surrounding their star midfielder Adam Wharton. It is said the Eagles have indicated their willingness to come closer to £20m.

It is claimed Boro want £20m down with £5m in add-ons for a player who still has a season left on his current contract.

Almost as soon as the season ended speculation about the midfielder’s future began to intensify, with the likes of Manchester United linked – albeit likely down to the links with Michael Carrick.

It emerged that Hackney prefers a move to Everton, amid interest from Hull City, having been named Championship Player of the Year.

Hackney has come through the Boro youth system and but for a loan spell with Scunthorpe has spent his entire career at the club.
