Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is reportedly expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with growing claims that all parties involved now see a permanent exit as the most logical outcome.
The French international, who joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in 2023, is understood to be open to a new challenge after an inconsistent spell in West London.
Disasi arrived with a strong reputation from Ligue 1, where his physical presence, aerial dominance, and leadership qualities made him one of the standout defenders at AS Monaco. CHELSEA initially viewed him as a long-term solution to their defensive instability, and he featured regularly across his debut campaign.
However, his time in the Premier League has been marked by fluctuating form and tactical uncertainty within a constantly evolving Chelsea backline. Frequent managerial changes, shifting defensive structures, and competition for places have limited his ability to fully establish himself as an undisputed starter.
Reports suggest that Chelsea’s recruitment strategy is once again shifting, with the club open to reshaping their defensive unit as part of a broader squad evolution. Disasi is believed to have suitors in both the Premier League and abroad, with clubs in Italy and Spain monitoring his situation closely.
While no formal bid has yet been confirmed, the expectation is that Chelsea would be willing to sanction a sale if a suitable offer arrives, particularly given the need to balance squad depth and wage structure ahead of further incomings.
Opinion: why Disasi may need to leave
From a sporting perspective, a departure could benefit both player and club. Disasi has struggled to consistently adapt to the tactical demands placed on Chelsea centre-backs, particularly in a system that requires high-level progression from deep and rapid defensive transitions.
At times, he has looked most comfortable in a more traditional, structured defensive setup—something Chelsea have not consistently provided amid ongoing tactical experimentation. That mismatch has limited his development and, crucially, his confidence.
For CHELSEA, the need to streamline the squad and create clarity in defensive roles is becoming increasingly important. Continuity at centre-back is often the foundation of successful teams, and constant rotation has hindered cohesion.
For Disasi, a move to a system that better suits his strengths—more direct defending, clearer responsibilities, and fewer structural shifts—could allow him to rediscover the form that made him a standout in France. In that sense, a summer exit may represent not a failure, but a necessary reset for all parties involved.
