No medical yet: Man Utd forced to wait for£39m midfield signing despite agreement

Manchester United may need to exercise a little more patience than expected before completing one of their most important transfers of the summer.

Man United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Ederson from Atalanta this summer.

The Red Devils will pay a €40.5 million (£35m) fixed fee plus €4.5m (£4m) in potential add-ons.

It was revealed recently that the 26-year-old underwent his medical on Sunday to finalise the United transfer.

However, fresh information has now cast doubt over those claims.

According to Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall, Ederson was not scheduled to undergo his medical at the weekend, and United will complete the transfer only once Brazil are out of the World Cup.

The Brazilian midfielder was not part of the initial 26-man squad for the World Cup.

A muscle injury suffered by Wesley opened the door for manager Carlo Ancelotti to hand the midfielder a late call-up.

Brazil are among the strongest contenders to lift the coveted trophy.

Their squad is packed with elite attacking talent including Vinicius Junior, Matheus Cunha, Igor Thiago, Neymar and Raphinha.

Anything less than a place in the semi-finals would likely be viewed as a major disappointment.

The World Cup final is scheduled to take place on July 19 but United have their first pre-season game on July 18.

If Brazil manage to reach the final and potentially win the tournament, United may not be able to officially complete the transfer until the final week of July.

It was previously believed that Ederson could be the first signing of the Michael Carrick era, but that could now change.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the timeline, there remains little doubt about the final outcome.

All indications suggest Ederson will become a Man United player before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
