Premier League new boys keen to sign ‘excellent’ Man Utd first-team player

Hull City are reportedly hoping to keep Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer at the club beyond the current campaign.

The 22-year-old is a Brighton youth product who was poached by the Red Devils in 2022. After spending time with the club’s U18 and U21 teams, he was promoted to the first team under Erik ten Hag in 2024.

At one point, Collyer became a regular feature in Ruben Amorim’s team, overtaking Casemiro in the pecking order, with Rio Ferdinand praising him for his ‘excellent‘ performances. However, the Worthing native’s momentum was interrupted by an injury.

Hull City determined to keep Toby Collyer

Last summer, Collyer was loaned out to West Brom, but his promising start was ruined by a calf injury. Man Utd decided to recall him in January before sending him to Hull City.

Although he wasn’t a regular starter under Sergej Jagirovic, he still made occasionaly appearances for the Tigers, who finished sixth in the Championship table. They eventually went on to win the playoffs thanks to Ollie McBurnie’s 95th-minute winner against Middlesbrough at Wembley.

Collyer’s Stats in 25/26 Appearances (Starts) Goals Assists

West Brom 12 (3) 0 1

Hull City 5 (1) 0 0

Hull have thus achieved promotion to the Premier League, and they’re now working on bolstering their squad as they prepare to compete among the strongest teams in the country.

According to the Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones, Hull would like to negotiate a new deal with Man Utd to keep Collyer at the MKM Stadium.

Although the 22-year-old wasn’t a prominent player in the squad this season, the EPL new boys believe they can unlock an upgraded version of the midfielder, especially after a full pre-season with his teammates.

Should Man Utd offload Collyer?

This summer, United’s midfield department is undergoing a major revamp. Casemiro has already bid his teammates farewell, while Manuel Ugarte could follow suit, with the club hoping to receive a suitable offer.

Kobbie Mainoo will thus be joined by new teammates, beginning with Ederson. Man Utd have already sealed an agreement with Atalanta worth £35 million, and they’re now working on signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.

While there might be room for one more midfielder, Man Utd are leaning towards making a third signing or promoting a youngster, like Tyler Fletcher or Jim Thwaites.

As for Collyer, it almost feels like that ship has already sailed, so he would be better off carving himself a place elsewhere.

Transfermarkt estimates the Englishman’s value at €5 million. His contract with United will expire next year.
